The Florida Dance Challenge Terms and Conditions

Please read through carefully The Florida Dance Challenge terms and conditions:

  • The Florida Dance Challenge and the venue hosting the event are not responsible for any personal injury or property loss that is suffered by anyone attending or participating in the event. FDC reserves the right, when necessary, to relocate an event site/date/time or expand an event to a multiple day event if necessary.
  •  In order to submit any changes to your team registration, log in to you account and make the update.  Changes will not be accepted via email.
  • Changes or cancellation after the January 10th, 2025  deadline, will not be refunded.
  • Teams that have not submitted payment by the event date will not be allowed to participate in the event.
  •  Music  must be uploaded into the DanceComp Genie software before January 10th, 2025.
  •   All changes to original submitted entries must be in writing; no verbal requests will be honored. Changes to original entries must be received seven days before the event. 
  • FDC reserves the rights to change, delete, or add to any rules, regulations, or policies at any time deemed necessary. 
  • FDC reserves the right to cancel any event due to lack of registration, weather, or other unforeseen circumstance. If an extenuating weather or unforeseen circumstance arises and FDC cancels an event and it is not rescheduled, refunds or credits for the following year will be issued. If the event is rescheduled, no refunds will be given. Should an extenuating circumstance arise, please check the website and/or your email address that you registered under for any event updates. 
  • FDC requests any questions regarding schedule changes should be submitted by the Team Coach/School Dance Director. 
  • FDC waiver must be signed electronically by all registered participants by January 10th, 2025.  
  • All registered participants grant permission to the FDC and its representatives to publish their photographs/videos on local media, promotional videos, marketing materials, the internet, or any other visual media, as deemed fit by FDC in an effort to promote its events. 
  • In addition, all representatives, staff, or kin of FDC are released and held harmless from any and all claims for damages or injuries sustained while participating in or attending any activity related to any and all events.  
  • All photographs/videos taken by FDC and any independent representative commissioned by FDC become the property of The Florida Dance Challenge. 


Rules and Regulations

 PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING RULES AND REGULATIONS CAREFULLY. THE FLORIDA DANCE CHALLENGE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DEDUCT POINTS FROM OR DISQUALIFY ANY ENTRY OR CONTESTANT THAT DOES NOT ADHERE TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS.  A DISQUALIFIED CONTESTANT OR TEAM WILL AUTOMATICALLY FORFEIT ITS RIGHTS TO ANY PRIZES OR AWARDS PRESENTED AT THE EVENT.  THE FDC RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DISALLOW ANY TEAM, COACH, DANCER, SPECTATOR AND OR OTHER PERSON FROM ATTENDING ANY FUTURE FDC EVENTS FOR ANY REASON IN FDC’S SOLE AND FINAL DISCRETION.  

General rules

  • Every coach/director is responsible for the behavior of their dancers and those affiliated with their team.
  • Every coach/director is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner while speaking to competition officials, parents, and dancers of their team and other teams.
  • All dancers are expected to display good sportsmanship, both on and off the competition floor. Uncontrollable acts of misbehavior could result in disqualification. Failure to act in a professional manner will result in disqualification.
  • It is the sole responsibility of the coach/director to direct any competition questions to the competition officials. 
  • Coaches/Directors will be allowed to ask questions concerning the judges’ comments; however, all scoring and final scores will remain as such.


Safety Guidelines

  • Teams should have an emergency plan in the event of injury/illness of a dancer.
  • If a dancer is injured leading up to competition and or at competition, the coach/director may substitute that dancer for another dancer that appears on the competition roster. The competition roster will be submitted at the time of the registration. You may not substitute the dancer with a dancer that does not appear on the roster.
  • The coach/director is responsible for their dancers at all times during the event.
  • The coach/director is responsible for recognizing the level of abilities of their team. Movement and tricks being executed must be appropriate for the age level performing the routine to avoid safety risks to all dancers.
  • Technical skills and tricks must never be executed without the supervision of a coach/ director present. Teams should always practice in areas and floors that are suitable for dance.
  • Adequate warm-up should be implemented by the team before and after performances.
  • All FDC events will abide by all applicable laws and regulations regarding health and safety. All coaches, directors, teams, and spectators will comply with such laws and regulations, as well as any other health and safety restrictions FDC may decide to put in place for events.

Routine Guidelines

  • Any costumes, shoes, and/or items related to the dance that could damage the performance floor will not be permitted.
  • Airborne items during routines will not be permitted. Examples include:
  • Talcum powder
  • Dry ice 
  • Confetti
  • Any liquid
  • Rose pedals
  • Shredded paper

Choreography and Music

  • Please make sure that all your music has been legally purchased.
  • Each competition entry will be required to provide their own music using an MP3 file and will be required to upload their music as part of their registration.
  • All music must be recorded at the competitor’s desired speed and cued properly at the beginning of the music.  No adjustments can be made to the music at the competition.  School and team coaches must have a backup readily available (you may use your smart device as your backup).
  • All choreography and music must be appropriate for a family viewing audience.
  • Choreography should not be vulgar, have sexual content, and/or display acts of violence.
  • Time limit: Solo/Duets/Trios 1:30-2:30 minutes, Ensembles/Team routines 2:00-3:30 minutes.
  • Any routine exceeding 5-15 second will inquire a deduction of 5 points toward their routine.
  • Any routine exceeding 15 seconds will have their music cut off at the 3 minute and 45 second mark. 

Costuming

  • All costumes/uniforms must be in good taste and appropriate for a family viewing audience.
  • It is up to the team coach’s/director’s discretion to keep uniformity amongst their group- i.e., shoes, earrings, etc.
  • Props that are attached to a costume or handheld will be permitted. It is the responsibility of the coach/director to make sure that the prop/item is securely fastened to the costume.
  • Jewelry that could cause harm to a dancer or other dancers will not be permitted. Any jewelry worn must be secured.
  • Costume malfunctions may be subject to deductions.

Tricks and Acrobatics

  • Dancers will not be permitted in any routine to land on their head, coming from an airborne movement.
  • Tricks must land either on a dancer’s hands or feet before any other body part lands on the floor on the dismount of any trick/acrobatic skill. 
  • The following tricks/acrobatic skills will be permitted in all routines: 
  • Front aerials
  • Side aerial cartwheels
  • Front/back walk overs
  • Front/back handspring
  • Front/back tuck
  • Cartwheels
  • Kick-up
  • Headsprings

Partnering, Lifts and Release Moves

  • Partnering/lifts must never be airborne. There must be at least one hand supporting a dancer in any partnering/lifts.
  • No jumping/leaping off another dancers’ shoulders unless their weight is being supported by another dancer/dancers.
  • No basket tosses from other dancers’ hands, knees, thighs etc. will be permitted.

Videos and Photography

  •   The Florida Dance Challenge will provide professional photography services on site that will have photos of each program’s performances for purchase. 
  • You are allowed to take photos and videos BUT we ask that if you are filming or photographing yourself, you only record YOUR OWN team’s performances. 
  • Please do not take photos or videos of other performances.
